The Broward Eye Clinic is located on the second floor
of the University's multi-disciplinary clinic located
in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The clinic is open to the
public year round. In addition to optometry there is
a full service lab and x-ray, adult medicine, pediatric
medicine, pharmacy, ob-gyn, and social services.
The eye clinic has 8 primary eye care exam rooms,
4 pediatric exam rooms, a vision therapy area, full
service optical dispensary, and a special testing room.
Over 200 patients a week are served by the eye clinic
alone. The Chief, Dr. Greg Black; the Pediatric Specialist,
Dr. Genia Beasley; Optician, Steven Ross; and office
reception staff, Josie Garrett and Mabel White, staff
the clinic. The primary care eye clinic has two residents
and 7 interns on rotation each semester. The pediatric
eye clinic has 4 interns rotating through the clinic.
Because of our unique place in the community the optometry
clinic sees patients from all walks of life. In one
day we may see a CEO of a major company followed by
a homeless man who does not speak English. People of
many races, nationalities, and socio-economic backgrounds
are patients of the clinic. This presents many challenges
and opportunities to both the students and the faculty. |
